OpenAI Gets a Fresh Look: New Logo, Custom Font, and a More Human Feel

OpenAI has unveiled its first-ever rebrand since 2022, and for designers, this transformation is a fascinating case study in how visual identity can evolve alongside a company’s mission.

The rebranding effort was spearheaded by OpenAI’s in-house design team, led by Head of Design Veit Moeller and Design Director Shannon Jager. They collaborated with Berlin-based type foundry ABC Dinamo and Rotterdam’s Studio Dumbar to craft a visual identity that balances geometric precision with an approachable character.

A centerpiece of this new identity is the bespoke typeface, OpenAI Sans, which blends clean lines with subtle irregularities to counteract any robotic precision and make the brand feel more human.

The updated logo retains the familiar “blossom” symbol but features a slightly larger space in the center and cleaner lines, enhancing its clarity and modernity.

This rebrand comes at a time when OpenAI’s flagship product, ChatGPT, has seen explosive growth, boasting around 300 million weekly active users.

The refreshed visual identity aims to create a more organic and human connection with users, aligning with OpenAI’s mission to develop AI technologies that are both innovative and beneficial to society.
