Fireworks displays are a popular part of many celebrations, holidays, and festivals around the world. But regardless of how often you’ve watched a fireworks show, I bet you’ve never seen them quite like this.
The photos included here were taken by David Johnson at the International Fireworks Show in Ottawa, Canada.
They’re different from most long-exposure fireworks shots you might have seen in the past. Johnson refocused during each shot, which lasted from roughly one to two seconds, creating bizarre shapes. It’s an amazing technique that was developed on the fly at the show.
